QUESTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS.
1. Read the extract from Dr. Fischer, quoted in Stanford’s ‘Compendium of
Geography—Europe,’ vol. i., p. 281, which gives a good idea of the contrast
in scenery between Northern, Central, and Southern Spain,
2. Deseribe the route followed by the railway from Madrid to Cadiz, mentioning
any physical features that have obstructed or assisted the construction of
. the line.
3. Discuss the site of Gibraltar as a strategical post.
4. Deseribe the differences in climate and vegetation that might be observed in
travelling from Lisbon to Barcelona by way of Madrid, and account for them
$ as far as possible (see pp. 21 and 23). . . .
; Why is there more difference in the climate of various portions of the Iberian
Peninsula than in the climate of different portions of the Italian Peninsula ?
5. Can You suggest any more suitable site for the capital of Spain than Madrid ?
Supposing the whole of the Iberian Peninsula to be under one government,
Would Lisbon be a better site for the capital than any other place ?
