Historic textbooks from GEI-Digital on Lower Saxony’s cultural heritage website

Selected examples from the GEI-Digital digitisation project have been included on Lower Saxony’s cultural heritage internet site Kulturerbe Niedersachsen.

A selection of texts from the last three hundred years will be publicly accessible through the web portal Kulturerbe Niedersachsen. In addition to fascinating images and maps, historic textbooks from the regions of Braunschweig, Hanover and Hildesheim will be included in the selection. The textbooks, which originate from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries, offer a multifaceted insight into the development of the education system.

Kulturerbe Niedersachsen enables libraries, archives and museums in the state of Lower Saxony to bring together their diverse collections on one virtual platform. This provides the general public with direct multimedia access to a selection of cultural items from Lower Saxony in digital form.

GEI-Digital, which was launched in 2009, is a long-term project sponsored by the German Research Foundation. It digitises textbooks dating from the seventeenth to the early twentieth centuries and makes these primary sources accessible to academia as a comprehensive collection.

GEI-Digital is a cooperation project. In addition to the GEI the participants are the Research Library for the History of Education at the German Institute for International Educational Research (BBF/DIPF) and the Gauß IT centre at the Technical University Braunschweig.
