UNITED STATES. 
1. That part of America in which we live, is called 
Ihe United States, It is a very large country, and ex- 
tends from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. The 
United States includes almost a third part of North 
America, and more than one half of its ınhabitants. 
2. Many parts of the United States possess a rich 
and fertile soil. In the eastern, middle, and western 
states, corn, wheat, and. rye, with apples, peaches, pears, 
&c., are cultivated. In the southern states, cotfon, f0- 
bacco, rice, and sugar, are produced to a great extent
